International Youth Internships

GBP works closely with government and organizations in host countries to identify and develop innovative projects, providing young Canadians opportunities to develop professionally and make a difference in sustainability globally.

To date, GBP Consulting has provided over 30 internships in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin American and the Caribbean, addressing challenges to unemployment, rapid urbanization and environmental degradation. Over 80 percent of Canadian youth who participated in GBP’s internship program have remained employed in the international development or environmental sector and/or continued their participation in sustainability and international development initiatives.

In combination with public and private sector funding, GBP, a social enterprise, funds internships by donating a portion of the company’s profits.

Funding provided in part by:

Global Affairs Canada
Environment and Climate Change Canada
Natural Resources Canada
Innovation Science and Economic Development Canada

“I participated in a two-month internship in The Bahamas to help launch a community recycling depot, and expand school recycling programs for youth. This internship set the stage for what my career would become, and the skills I learned down there benefit me to this day. GBP was amazing to work with and is a great mentor who was willing to trust me with as much responsibility as I was willing to take on, which allowed an accelerated rate of learning that was both challenging and very rewarding. Working in another country and collaborating with people in a different culture from your own will be an absolutely invaluable experience in your future work and life. Plus, as someone who now does a lot of networking, there’s no better conversation-starter than an internship in The Bahamas.”

“My experience with [GBP] was foundational to my career in sustainability. I was able to turn the knowledge gained through my education into real-world actions, gaining expertise in a variety of professional areas outside of my primary areas of study. I learned to apply my own personal skills and abilities towards successful program development in amazing overseas communities and GBP helped me develop important professional skills like grant proposal development and project management. On top of it all, I was able to explore a new country, integrate at the community level with a completely different cultural dynamic than I was used to, and made tons of new friends along the way. I couldn’t recommend my experience with [GBP] enough to anyone looking to jumpstart their career.”
